Spring Recreation

With spring comes warmer temperatures but the mountain retains its heavy snow pack through this season, offerring beautiful blue-bird days on the slopes. As the snow slowly melts, the runoff brings chrome bright Chinook salmon and steelhead into the rivers around the mountain providing some of the best fisheries in the country. Not to mention the world famous salmon fly hatch on the Deschutes River. Trails begin to open up at lower elevations offering excellent opportunities for hiking, biking and wildlife viewing. Local golf courses are also a great relaxing activity in the spring time.

  • Downhill Skiing/Boarding - available at Mt. Hood Skibowl, Timerline, Mt. Hood Meadows and Cooper Spur
  • Nordic Skiing - trails throughout the backcountry of the Mt. Hood National Forest
  • Snowshoeing - local and backcountry trails through the Mt. Hood National Forest
  • Snowmobiling - groomed trails throughout the Mt. Hood National Forest, for all experience levels
  • Snow tubing - a popular family activity, snow tubing is available locally at Mt. Hood Skibowl
  • Fishing - trout, salmon, steelhead and sturgeon are plentiful during the spring season, plus bass and walleye
  • Hiking - the Mt. Hood National Forest is home to over one thousand miles of trails!
  • Waterfalls & Lakes - endless opportunities abound in exploring the areas countless lakes and waterfalls
  • Bird & Wildlife Watching - available year round, this is a great activity to enjoy in the quiet backcountry
  • Golfing - choose between 9 and 18-holes at numerous courses in the Mt. Hood area
  • Arts & Culture - Spring brings the bloom of the area fruit trees and the Parkdale Blossom Festival
  • Historic Mt. Hood Train - an excellent way to explore the Hood River valley for all ages
  • Windsurfing - only a short distance to the Columbia River Gorge and a windsurfing mecca
  • Mountain Biking - spring is an excellent time for those soft, leisurely trail rides to start the season
  • Climbing Mt. Hood - sunny days and a heavy snow pack makes spring ideal for getting to the top of the mountain
